Disadvantages

Dry shampoo is a beauty product category that has been growing lately. Years ago ladies would dust their hair with baby powder and then brush it out as an emergency hair cleaning method. You can still do that, but now there are many different dry shampoo products you can try.

Dry shampoo sounds like it might be a great solution to some problems that are common in today’s busy lifestyles. Wouldn’t it be great to work out at lunch time and then be able to head back to your desk with clean, fresh hair? How about those times when you’re leaving work and going out on the town? Or when you’re traveling and have to go right from a long, grueling plane flight straight to a business meeting?

Dry shampoo can certainly come in handy, but there can be some problems, depending on which ones you buy and how you plan to use it.

The main thing to note about dry shampoo is that it is a powder. Oil from the hair and scalp clings to the powder, which absorbs it. When the powder is brushed out, so is the oil, product buildup, and everything else with it. The problem may come in, if you hair is dark and the powder is light in color. With some products, consumers report that the dry shampoo can leave a visible residue. This is not so much a problem with lighter shades, but can be a real problem with dark hair.

The brushing out process might be a problem for some. If you have heavily textured or very curly hair, brushing may make it too frizzy to maintain a style. Since particles cling and get caught in the curls, it might be hard to get the powder out, even with vigorous brushing.

Depending on the design of the package, application of the powder might some times, be problematic for some users if it drifts or spills around the ladies’ room or on your outfit. If you’ve never used a dry shampoo before, it would be a good idea to take a look at some review sites to see what other people have to say about the different products, especially if you are considering one of the pricier salon or premium brands. Reviews can tell you if the powder application is gentle and easy to direct, or comes out in a blast. They can let you know if it works for hair of your color or texture. They can offer clues to the fragrance.

Scent is a special area where different users will have a range of opinions, but if a product claims to be unscented, and it isn’t, or if every user describes the scent as very bad or very good, then you at least have some idea of what to expect going in.

In today’s busy world, many people find dry shampoo to be a very handy item to keep in their gym duffle, desk drawer or carry-on bag. Take note of the pros and cons of using it and you’ll find it a very convenient product.
